agent shenans

His eyes were itching from the drops he’d taken to mask the glow behind the contact lenses, and the dye in his mouth tasted like chalk. He’d had to do significant prep ahead of time to not stare at the wrong color that was on his nose, or to catch himself off-guard around mirrored objects.

This was unspeakably unpleasant, but outside Ascendancy space, Chiss stood out. Chiss were generally remembered when people were questioned about crime scenes. To be Chiss was to attract attention, and he couldn’t rely on actual invisibility this time. He needed to be able to walk in and go unremarked upon for his species.

He didn’t want to, but he needed to.

For once, he’d been given what felt like good intel on the layout, the target, the security, and the guest list to the ambassador's gala. He’d been added as a vice-something from an off-planet firm, a wealthy but boring sort of person by human standards. He mingled, doing his best to make blandly uninteresting small talk with the other guests, carefully watching for openings. The ambassador held the keycodes, of course, but the vault could be sliced if he had a chance to slip away.
